Be sure to place the cage away from windows and drafty areas.
You may also be able to get a pet store to resell your bird or to sell your bird on consignment. Giving your bird away, either to a friend or to a school class as a new class pet, can also provide your bird with a good long-term home. Parakeets are very social birds and prefer to be kept in pairs or small groups.
Parakeets have a very active metabolism and can easily become ill if they go without food for 24 hours. Parakeets should be provided with a staple diet of fresh parakeet seed or pellets daily. Be sure to check the food dish daily, as they will only eat from the top of what is offered. In addition to a pellet diet, parakeets should be offered chopped dark green and yellow veggies as well as a variety of fruits, hard cooked eggs, and grated cheese. Remember to remove fresh foods after two hours to prevent them from spoiling.
